rugged rooted masses of earth create comfortable feelings of nostalgia

it just takes some time and effort

to grow and develop

just enough

energy

to notice

sharper edges

and smooth surfaces

that could be used to reflect deeper purposes

to transcend intergenerational symbols of gnosis

i felt a bit embarrassed, i must admit, upon the realization..at age 28..that i hardly even knew how to make mashed potatoes..my most favorite of comfort foods as a child.

So, this year, i stood at the kitchen sink and just thought..where to begin..i mean how much work is involved here..how many potatoes feed 2..and oh jeeze we gotta peel them..isn’t there a tool for that or something…is this where we add the elbow grease…hah?

..all the sudden feelings of thankfulness become overwhelming..

..joy..sorrow….sacrifice..reward..

“you can do this..be careful” repeated silently in my thoughts as i whittled at the skins..

“not perfect, but pretty close” harmonized the silence while i waged onward against each tuber..revealing all the fresh flesh Nature had to provide!

..generations of hardwork..and yearly celebrations of the harvest..have inspired such great human beings..to build such strong families..this collective coalition of divinity is beyond words…just gratitude..and peace signs!

still..it’s easy to take things for granted… a hot meal.. a warm bed.. comforting food.. many still go without….

…but let us not despair..it is good to be thankful..and today is the day for that..

..if guilt motivates your hardwork..and gratitude is a trigger point…let that shit be..

..instead allow for daily effort to be the driver..do the work..peel the potatoes..love your life..that’s the job..we’ve all signed up for it!

..so today..i’m humbled at the opportunity to peel potatoes..with knives purchased from ikea..to boil and smash them potatoes..and share them with my loving girlfriend..and our pup dante, too..

..my mind wanders..
