Chess is like Life | Deadwood | JBPwave

I sat down again and played until the position was real. This is that second sitting.

Chess is like life. Deadwood. Some of what you carry never does any work.

1.d4 g5. The Borg. The game gets wild fast. Pawns trade on the kingside. The black queen gets in behind the white king and eats on g3 and g2. The white king walks to d3 and back.

White’s h-rook fights. It checks on h8 and takes the bishop on c8. Then the black knight steps from e4 to f2. That opens a check from the queen on g6 and hits the white queen on d1 at the same time. The queen falls.

21.Kxd1. Look at a1 and b1. Move 21, and that rook and that knight have not moved once. Count the white pieces that are working. Count the ones that are just standing there.

Black keeps checking. The white king runs to a3. Black pushes the queenside pawns.

r7/3pkp2/2n1q3/8/1p5R/KP6/P4r2/RN6 w – – 0 32

31…axb4#. A pawn gives mate. The rook on a1 and the knight on b1 are still on their starting squares. They were deadwood the whole game.

Cut what does not work, or put it to work. Bring every piece into the game before you need it.

I wish you the best of luck!!
