Chess Therapy | Pawn Yoga

Pawn yoga means slow breathing, one square at a time, and this endgame is a long, patient stretch. It runs 58 moves, so settle in.

The pieces come off early. By move 39 the board is almost empty. Black’s b-pawn has walked the whole way down.

5k2/p3p3/2K5/7p/6P1/8/6PP/1q6 w – – 0 40

39…b1=Q. White has pawns too. Count the moves. Who gets there first, and does it matter once the first queen lands?

Black keeps breathing. The e-pawn walks down and becomes a queen. Then the a-pawn does the same.

5k2/8/K7/8/8/8/8/qqq5 w – – 0 59

58…a1=Q#. Three pawns became three queens. Nobody rushed. Push one square, check the board, push again. Keep going.

I wish you the best of luck!!
