[TCZ] Lesson of the Day | it’s just like riding a bike | 419 – 1114-1

Here is an example game to study the Scandinavian exchange variation with Coach Chad as Guest6849211141 using the e5-d5 exchange to gather momentum while gaining space in the center after a sneaky opening gambit!

  1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Be2 Qxg2 4. Bf3 Qg6 5. d4 Qe6+ 6. Kf1 Qc4+ 7. Kg2 e6 8.
    Nd2 Qb5 (8… Qxd4 9. c3 Qf6) 9. c4 Qg5+ 10. Kf1 Qh4 11. Qa4+ Bd7 12. Qb3 Nc6 13. Qxb7 Rb8 14. Qxc7 Qd8 15. Qg3 Nxd4 16. Ne4 1-0
4. Bf3 attacks the queen and takes control of the h1-a8 fianchetto
after some slight inaccurate development from both sides, 11. Qa4+ seems balanced but the continuation becomes unclear
after 11. ..Bd7 12. Qb3 Nc6 tempts Qb3 to capture the hanging pawn at b7!?
so it goes, 13. Qxb7 Rb8! leaves the queen in hot water, but there seems to be an escape
The queen escapes by capturing another pawn, then declining a trade and retreating into an unclear position following 14. Qxc7 Qd8 15. Qg3 Nxd4 16. Ne4 — the Knight at e4 can deflect the dark square bishop, the white queen eyes the rook at b8, chess, black seems to be able to defend all threats, so they ought to become better poised for a counter attack, but it is very unclear!

The game ended with timeout for black.

I wish you the best of luck, if your opponent offers the Scandinavian exchange, accepting the battle is just like riding a bike, have fun, try and go fast, but don’t crash!

Ps. Here’s another example of a similar game with the same opening gambit, the outcome seems more clear with this second version leaving black searching for a balance.
