[TCZ] Lesson of the Day, Sac the Rook!

The opening rook sac (10. Rxf4!?) leaves mate in 8 available when accepted and followed through with accuracy, however inaccuracy can lead to a grueling battle where the sacrifice ends in a brutal draw if white is lucky..so train and trust intuition when preparing to use a dastardly king hunt scholar mate!

Mmm bullseye

However, that’s now how it went down here, Coach Chad had to sweat it out and fight the clock for a win. But really it was leading to a slow draw after a passed pawn endgame. Take the easy win, be accurate, be precise, don’t let the king escape!

instead, after 10. ..gxf4 the game went, 11. Bh5+ Ke7 12. Qe2+ Kd6 13. Bxf4+?! Kc6 14. Bf3+ d5 15. Qc4+! shown above, exploiting the pinned pawn to corner the king shown below after ..Kb7 16. Bxd5+ Kb8? seems like the only other way is (..Qxd5? 17. Qxd5+)
But after 17. Nc3?? (Qc6!), Coach Chad has missed his mate and let the king escape! The long game afterwards is entirely avoidable. Next time take a breath, trust your instincts, take the win!

Coach Chad salvaged an advantage for white leaving the black bishop stuck in the corner, with an optimistic white pawn pushing for kingside promotion with support of the white knight; the white king is well positioned to defend the queenside black-pawn-storm; yet it became unclear; nearly zugzwang; any good move seems like a blunder — jump to 40. c3 b5

8/8/pp3k1P/2p2N2/6P1/8/P1P1K3/b7 w – – 1 39

Tension after 41. Kc2 b4

Then Coach Chad plays a dubious move 42. a4?! Bxc3 — drawish, Coach Chad lost a critical pawn when it could’ve just been pushed to a safe square 42. c4! seems like the missed solution to this endgame; weak color complex, white squares vs dark bishop

after 42. c4, white is winning

Instead, Coach Chad lost the pawn and now white has to fight to save a draw

Speed ahead to the critical end game freeze — save the draw as either side!!

8/8/p5kP/P1p2N2/1p4P1/2b5/2K5/8 b – – 0 43

Looking beyond inaccurate play leading to drawish endgames, here’s a few lines to start the analysis

43. a5 Kg5 44. Kb3 Kxg4 45. Ne7 Kh5 46. Ng8 Bd2 47. Kc4 Bxh6 48. Nf6+! (48. Nxh6??)

Or

43. a5 c4 44. Ne7+ Kxh6 45. Nd5 Be1 46. Ne3 Kg5 47. Nxc4 Kxg4
